To support the launch of their new M Kitchen range, Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc commissioned the creation of a bespoke multi-faceted kitchen in which their team of expert chefs were able to develop, create and taste new dishes for release to the public.
We worked closely with the executive chef and head of brand innovation, the architect and the facilities management to assist in the design and realisation of this ambitious scheme. As an additional challenge the period from the initial briefing to handover was less than 5 months including deciding on where the new Kitchen was to be located within the existing HQ building. The resultant scheme combined a number of domestic kitchen stations, a cookery theatre and a commercial kitchen area all created from an area of existing meeting rooms. In conjunction with a small number of long standing and trusted subcontractors as well as the consultant team, the design was developed utilising contemporary material such as Corian, glass, Amtico and stainless steel and our joinery manufacturing workshop undertook the design and fabrication of the walnut domestic kitchen units. We also created a number of new meeting rooms throughout the building to replace those that had been removed to accommodate the new kitchen.
When undertaking the works on site, great care and consideration was taken to that fact that we were working in a very busy live environment and therefore we had to mitigate any disruption. As a consequence much of the work was undertaken at night with a constant liaison with the facilities management.
The kitchen was opened by the Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc’s Chief Executive, Mr Dalton Phillips to universal acclaim and now forms an important role in the development of new food products.
