Bradford Live Entertainment Venue

Bradford Live Entertainment Venue

This project was to restore the theatre to its original 1930’s layout with one large auditorium offering a capacity of 3,800 and separate entertainment areas including the ball room with a capacity of a further 500 guests. There are also spaces for conferences, meetings and banqueting. The entire renovation has been done in accordance with the original design of the building incorporating modern features.

The restoration and transformation of the historic Bradford Odeon into the vibrant Bradford Live building presented significant challenges along the way, including, issues around space limitations, resulting in renting office accommodation and nearby compounds to aid the restrictions experienced within a busy city centre site; resolving the discovery of asbestos after reports confirmed there were none present; resequencing works due to unforeseen Structural floor replacement throughout the building which was not in the original scope of works; propping of a large deteriorating Victorian culvert to enable the foundations of the extension to be constructed; and this is to name but a few of the issues we have overcome, without detailing the usual complexities associated with the preservation of historical elements, and meeting modern building standards.

This restoration project was carried out in collaboration with Bradford Metropolitan District Council, with particular attention to the building’s historical and cultural significance. We worked closely with local historian Mark Nicholson, who provided valuable input to ensure that all aspects of the original structure were carefully considered.
