The brief was to convert 4 Netto stores (at Shildon, Bedlington, Castletown and Bransholme) to midsized Morrisons Stores (up to approx. 10,200 sq ft of sales floor) including the introduction of an extensive range of standard Morrisons customer facilities Including in store butchery and bakery preparation areas and associated servery ovens.
As well as full re-branding to a standardised Morrisons store specification to both sales floor and back of house, at least two additional walk-in freezers/coldrooms were constructed at each site and the store services infrastructure was completely updated.
Each store was converted within a two week period, where careful co-ordination of over 40 individual sub-contractor organisations was paramount to achieving a successful handover. This was further complicated as the sites commenced over a staggered start programme, with at least 2 sites being converted at any one time, as the clients requirement was for all the stores to be handed over for retail use within 5 weeks.
Excellent handovers were achieved at all sites and initial trading at the stores has exceeded the client’s projections significantly.
